Charles Lefever and his wife Fran lived in Millersville, a small community just outside of Lancaster, PA. As an insurance agent to a number of elderly people in the community, Charles frequently made “house calls” to do business with them without their having to arrange to get transportation to his office. In doing so, he was surprised and saddened to find that some of his clients did not have family members nearby to help with things such as buying groceries, doing housework, and other everyday tasks that should make a person’s later years “golden”.

Charles shared what he found with Fran, and together they decided to try and meet the needs of this group of seniors with what was, at that time, a new concept called, “Personal Care.” To help them in this endeavor, Charles and Fran enlisted the help of their daughter Lynette, who developed her nursing skills in a local nursing home.  In 1987, Lynette opened the doors at Oak Leaf Manor Millersville as the sole employee and cargegiver for three residents.

As the family’s business grew, and more residents moved in, Charles, Fran, and Lynette hired more employees and began creating what they called their “Oak Leaf Manor Family.” In 1994, they opened a second location in Landisville, Oak Leaf Manor North. This facility features a “grand Floridian” themed lobby, complete with palm trees and a beautiful fountain. It is a favorite resting spot for residents and their families.

By 2000, Charles and Fran had given the operational duties of the companies to Lynette. They and their other daughter, Alexis, remain the owners and continue to provide input on major company decisions. Lynette and the members of her Executive Committee ensure that quality care and exceptional customer service continue to be top priorities for the Oak Leaf Manor Family.
